Welcome to In Your Hands Counselling Services incorporation Therapy with Mary T, where I provide a comprehensive approach to mental well-being through personalised therapy services, and life coaching. 

My name is Mary Thomas, and I am a qualified Integrative Counsellor with a Postgraduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Coaching from the University of East London. I am currently pursuing my Master of Science degree in Counselling. 

I operate out of the Therapy Rooms in Haggerston, Hackney, London E8, and also offer online sessions via Teams or Zoom. Additionally, I have recently implemented 'Walk And Talk Therapy' sessions in local parks and open spaces. Take the first step towards a more fulfilling life today by scheduling a session with me.

Personalised Counselling

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). I adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions, which provides the values and principles that inform my counselling practice.

I am also a member of The Black, African and Asian Therapy Network (BAATN), Home of the UK’s largest independent organisation to specialise in working psychologically, informed by an understanding of intersectionality, with people who identify as Black, African, South Asian and Caribbean.  

As an Afro-Caribbean Black woman, I have experiences of marginalisation, racism, and how discrimination can intersect across various dimensions such as gender, class, race, sexuality, and disability. Throughout my journey, various life experiences have significantly enhanced my capabilities as a therapist.

Therapy allows you to negotiate those challenges and difficulties in a safe, secure place.

My approach is Humanistic Integrative counselling and puts you at the heart of what I do collaboratively. The therapeutic relationship is important.

Being integrative allows me to use different therapeutic techniques, skills and counselling models including Person-Centred, Gestalt, Psychodynamic therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Transactional Analysis (TA), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Coaching and Motivational Interviewing (MI) when needed.

 

My background:
I have worked for several years within the NHS in women’s services and have dealt with women who are facing anxiety and depression, mental health issues and physical health problems. I have worked with healthcare workers, students, unemployed and those working in the Arts.

In my voluntary position, I am working with clients who have faced domestic violence, anxiety and family issues. I work with LGBTQ individuals working through their experiences and issues in a non-judgemental collaboration.

Walking and Talk Therapy

I am excited to introduce a new service: Walk and Talk therapy. This innovative approach combines the benefits of physical activity with traditional therapeutic conversation, creating a dynamic and holistic experience.

What is Walk and Talk Therapy?

Walk and Talk therapy involves conducting our Counselling or coaching sessions outdoors while walking. This method not only promotes physical health but also stimulates mental clarity and creativity. The natural setting can make the therapeutic process feel more relaxed and less intimidating, fostering open and honest dialogue.

Benefits of Walk and Talk Therapy:

Availability

I offer an initial 15 minutes consultation free of charge.  

My charges are as follows:

Online £65 per 50 mins session

In person £70 per 50 min session

Walk and Talk £70 per 50 min session (Risk assessment pending)

Coaching £85 Per 60 minutes

 

I offer a few concessionary rate places for the unemployed and students, please ask.
